UK Contingent & International Events

Representing the UK at three international events

UK Contingent & International Events

There are numerous international Scouting and Guiding events that take place every year in the UK, Europe and further afield. These are the perfect opportunity to immerse your group into an amazing international adventure as you will not only meet Scouts and Guides from the host country but other visiting countries too. You will make friends for life from all over the world, which may be the start of a great exchange project visiting them in years to come. As everyone involved in Scouting and Guiding know there are opportunities to represent the UK at international events where members will travel as part of the UK Contingent, but there are so many more opportunities than these where you can travel with your county or local group.

UK Contingent Events

The United Kingdom Contingent travel to represent the UK at three international events –

  • World Scout Jamboree’s (participants aged between 14 and 18)
  • World Scout Moot’s (participants are aged between 18 and 25)
  • Roverway’s (participants are aged between 16 and 22)

In a previous role, Emily, the founder of Canvas & Compass, was involved in arranging the travel and ground arrangements for the UK Contingent for a number of International events including 13 th World Scout Moot in Kenya 2010, Roverway in Finland 2012, 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan 2015, 15 th World Scout Moot in Iceland 2017, Roverway in The Netherland 2018 and 24 th World Scout Jamboree in USA 2019. We know first hand what life changing opportunities these events offer both young people and adults alike, they really are the highlight of anyone’s travelling career in the Scouting or Guiding movement.

Upcoming Events

European Jamboree

Poland 2020

After a gap of nearly 15 years, since the UK hosted the last European Jamboree in 2005, the upcoming European Scout Jamboree will take place in Poland in July/August 2020. Building on the fantastic programme developed as part of their World Scout Jamboree bids the Scouts and Guides of Poland invite you to join them for 11 days of activities, combining the chance to develop new skills, make new friends from across Europe and experience Poland’s beautiful countryside. Based on its own island close to the city of Gdansk, the purpose-built site is within walking distance of beautiful sandy beaches, pine forests and a short bus ride from the bustling city.

World Scout Moot

Ireland 2021

The 16th World Scout Moot will take place in Ireland from 19th - 29th July 2021. The entry point to the Moot will be Dublin City. International Patrols will then explore the many wonders of Ireland on a collection of exciting and interesting trails in local countryside. The Patrols will then return to Dublin for the base camp feature of the Moot before returning home.

25th World Scout Jamboree

South Korea 2023

World Scout Jamboree is a worldwide youth camp held every four years with the aim of cultural exchange and building friendship. It is the world's leading international youth event with more than 50,000 teenagers from 169 countries. World Scout Jamboree will be held from 1 to 12 August in 2023 in Saemangeum, Jeollabuk-do Province, South Korea. The theme “Draw Your Dream” expresses the desire of the members of the Scout Movement to transform the World Scout Jamboree into their own festival and to grow their dreams through it.

To travel to these events, you need to be selected through your county, for more information on how to get involved please contact your ACCI or the events team at Scouts HQ.

Other Overseas International Scouting & Guiding Events

If you are not selected to represent the UK Contingent at an International Event, then there are plenty of other international events that you and your group can get involved with. The benefit of attending one of these events is that you can be flexible and creative with your itinerary around the main event itself as it is not prescribed by a UK Contingent Management Team.

Or If You Prefer Something a Little Closer to Home...

You don’t have to travel overseas to embrace an international camp as plenty of counties around the UK host their own international camp hosting Scouts and Guides from all over the world. Here you can mingle with likeminded groups without the worry of planning an overseas adventure, which is also great if you have to keep to a small budget.
