Kandersteg International Scout Centre

Kandersteg, Switzerland

Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) is "the permanent Jamboree", a place where Scouts from all over the world can meet year-round. Beautifully located in Kandersteg, Switzerland, it welcomes more than 12 000 guests from over 40 countries every year. The Founder of Scouting, Lord Baden-Powell, dreamed of one place, where Scouts can meet, live in peace and learn from each other. Only 13 years after the first scout camp on Brownsea Island, the first international event took place: the first World Scout Jamboree. At the Jamboree's closing ceremony, B.P. said that he dreams of one place in the world, where this “Jamboree” feeling - a feeling of world brotherhood, peace and international friendship - would happen all year long. His Dream came true in 1923 when Kandersteg International Scout Centre was founded.

To travel to these events, you need to be selected through your county, for more information on how to get involved please contact your ACCI or the events team at Scouts HQ.

Baden-Powell House

London, UK

Baden-Powell House, also known as B-P House, is a Scouting hostel and conference centre in South Kensington, London, which was built as a tribute to Lord Baden-Powell. The house, owned by The Scout Association, hosts a small exhibition relating to Scouting in its current form and a granite statue by Don Potter. Over the years, the building has been refurbished several times, so that it now provides modern and affordable lodging for Scouts, Guides, their families and the general public staying in London. The building also hosts conference and event space for hire.

Brownsea Island

Dorset, UK

On 1 August 1907 20 boys pitched their tents on Brownsea Island, little realizing how important and far-reaching their week would be. Lord Baden-Powell's experimental camp, based on scouting skills learnt in the army during the Boer War, set the foundation of the Scouting and Guiding movements today. Scouts and Guides still visit from all over the world to camp on the site where it all began. After the National Trust reopened the island in 1963, the original campsite was cleared and regular camps began again. Today, Scouts and Guides from around 75 different countries visit the island every year. The Brownsea Island Outdoor Centre is an award-winning timber clad building opened in 2007 to celebrate the centenary of the first experimental camp. Here you will also find the Trading Post where you can buy Scout and Guide badges and souvenirs and also learn more about the history of Scouting and Guiding through the information and artefacts on display there. Groups can camp on the campsite or stay in South Shore Lodge and take part in activities ranging from archery and low ropes, to watersports and heritage educational activities.

Scout Centres of Excellence for Nature and Environment

A Scout Centre of Excellence for Nature and Environment (SCENES) is a great place. SCENES was developed during the 1990’s as an initiative of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). It is a centre that has made a long-term commitment to protect the environment and promote environmental understanding. A SCENES Centre is committed to protecting its natural environment, minimizing its environmental impact and enabling all who are connected with the centre to engage with nature and become empowered to make their own personal commitment to the environment. A SCENES Centre leads by example and acts as a positive role model to other Scout and non-Scout centres, to its guests and to its local community. It can provide real hands-on educational activities for Scouts and training opportunities for leaders, equipping them with an enthusiasm for nature and a desire to do something positive for the environment in their home-life.
