  • Where is Canvas & Compass Travel based? Canvas & Compass Travel in based on the High Street in Cowbridge, a market town just outside Cardiff (South Wales). We are open Monday to Friday (9:30 to 5:00) so please feel free to pop in anytime for a chat about any future travel plans.
  • Can you only book full packages with Canvas & Compass Travel? No – you can book a range of travel services with us. You can book individual components to fit around your existing plans, for example flights, coach transfers to get to an international camp or Scout centre. We can of course arrange the whole itinerary to include everything from flights, transport, accommodation, sightseeing excursions and activities, meals and events.
  • What sort of International Adventures can Canvas & Compass offer? We have a wealth of experience in arranging a wide variety of different trips including community projects, adventure challenges, cultural exchanges, educational visits and visits to international camps and Scout centres. However, we are always looking for new and exciting ideas, so if you have a different idea for an international adventure and need some help with the arrangements get in touch.
  • How can Canvas & Compass Travel offer so many different international adventures to so many different countries? Our staff have a wealth of experience and knowledge of arranging tailormade group travel all over the world, one of our directors has just celebrated 60 years of working in travel. This experience and knowledge are partnered with established successful working relationships with local ground agents and suppliers in all the destinations we operate. Their local knowledge and support are invaluable when creating ‘trips of a lifetime’ for all our clients.
  • Does Canvas & Compass Travel have a brochure? We don’t have a standard brochure as every trip we organise is tailormade to the specific requirements of each group. Our website is the main source for inspiration and information when planning your next adventure.
  • How do we book our travel requirements with Canvas & Compass Travel? First of all, just get in touch with the team by phoning the office or sending an email. First, we can first have an informal chat about your plans and requirements to get all the information we need to work on a quote. Any quote you receive is just a starting point for discussions and can be amended to meet the needs of the group – every itinerary is fully flexible. Once you are happy with the quote and would like to proceed with the booking, we will require you to return a signed booking form and deposit payment.   • Do you require full payment upfront for any travel services we book with Canvas & Compass Travel? As a standard rule we only require a deposit payment at the time of booking to secure your travel arrangements on behalf of the group. The balance payment is due eight weeks before your departure date. There may be the odd occasion when full payment will be required at the time of booking, for example certain low-cost airlines require this to confirm the flights.
  • How many people must travel together to qualify as a group? Most suppliers offer group rates for groups of 10 or more people travelling together. However, we can arrange travel for groups of less than 10 people, even solo travellers but different booking terms and conditions may apply as per the booking terms and conditions of our suppliers.
  • If we book with Canvas & Compass Travel are our travel arrangements financially protected? Canvas & Compass Travel is fully bonded under the ABTA, ATOL and IATA licences held by its sister company Sam Smith Travel. We are also part of The Advantage Travel Partnership, the UK’s largest independent travel group which offers additional support.
  • Will the personal information that we give to Canvas & Compass Travel be kept safe? Of course – all our processes are in line with current GDPR guidelines. We will only ask for information that is required to ensure that all your travel components are booked correctly and as per the rules of our suppliers. For example – airlines require that flight tickets are booked as per names on the passenger’s passport, so we will require copies of passenger’s passport to do this. Once the group has travelled all personal data will be destroyed securely as per GDPR regulations.
  • Does Canvas & Compass Travel sell travel insurance? We are unable to sell travel insurance as there are strict regulations enforced by the Financial Services Authority. We can however recommend that you contact UNITY INSURANCE who specialise in travel insurance for Scouts and Guides. Our advice is that your purchase travel insurance as soon as you pay out any money for your travel arrangements to make sure you are fully covered for any eventuality.
  • How much support can Canvas & Compass offer us when planning our international adventure? We understand it can be a daunting task arranging travel for a group, so we are here to support you every step of the way. We can support you by attending parent’s evenings and briefing weekends to talk about what to expect on their trip and answer any questions. For large groups we can provide assistance at the airport on departure days to make sure that your trip gets off to a smooth start. While you are overseas you will have access to a 24 hour emergency number should any problems arise and for large international events or large group movements we will be there too to make sure everything goes to plan.
